My approach to eating disorder treatment follows these principles:
Eating disorders are mental illnesses.
Sufferers cannot choose to develop eating disorders.
Families and parents do not cause eating disorders.
Society and social expectations do not cause eating disorders.
Eating disorders are not purely a result of negative body image.
A sufferer must have a certain genetic predisposition
Regaining nutrition will help overcome the brain-based symptoms of starvation and thus will make treatment more effective
Psychotherapy may be useful for underlying or co- morbid disorders but eating disorder treatment is not based wholly on this practice.
Neuro- pathway re- mapping via meditation can change the neural pathways in the brain and are therefore an effective part of treatment.
A physical element (yoga) to practice can help the sufferer gain a stronger alliance between mind and body and will therefore be an asset to recovery.
I will always operate on a sliding scale if finances are a problem.
