This is part of a multi part series in The Cleanse Blog on which I will be looking at detox cleanses and the effect that they have on your body.

This week I am going to look at toxins and the concept of detoxifying.

Detoxifying is a term given to the process of removing toxins from the body. A toxin is a poison, so it is understandable why many people feel that embarking on a detox diet in order to lower their levels of toxicity is a good idea. However, detoxing and cleansing is an industry like any other is, and many cleanses market their own special plans that work out costly. It is important for you as a consumer to understand before embarking on a detox, what exactly the role of the liver is in the body, and if a detoxification diet will be effective.

It is helpful to understand that every chemical is toxic at some dose, even water! Seriously, I know a guy who almost killed himself from drinking too much water! Dose is important to consider, as it is down to dose that sometimes, taking supplements of vitamins can be toxic.

Anything taken out of balance can be toxic to your body. Balance and moderation when it comes to food are those ever present concepts that most of us struggle with so much. When we eat food in the form that it is provided to us in nature, it is rarely toxic.

Balance = a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct
proportions

Balance is a couple of cookies—not the whole bloody packet.balance

Balance is a couple of pieces of fruit a day— not a fruitarian diet.

Balance is the odd piece of cake, not a restricted fat fearing intake followed by an out of control binge on the entire contents of your fridge at 1am in the morning.

I know about a balanced diet, because I have done everything in extreme and excess that you can imagine. I have restricted, I have binged and I have finally come to a place where I have seemed to work out moderation. And believe me, that has taken years of failure to get to.

Cleansing is a term that is commonly used to describe the process of cleaning ones system via restricting food intake to levels that would not usually be attempted. Just out of interest, the dictionary definition of cleanse is “to free from dirt or guilt; purge or clean” The very word cleanse is a rather clever marketing term that leads consumers towards visions of greater purity. Judgements on why a person might feel that they are dirty or needing to cleanse can wait until a later blog

Removing-financial-toxins-e1330314481167 Lets start by looking at the liver. The word liver is rather aptly derived from the Old English word for “Life”, fitting due to the many functions that they liver has within the body. The liver has the ability to synthesize proteins that the body needs, it also makes beautiful bile so that we can digest food, but the function that the liver is most famous for is detoxifying the blood………...See Next Post
