Eating Disorder Recovery Guides

Guides for Helping Adults Recover from Eating Disorders

These are written based on my experience on my own recovery and that of those whom I have worked with since. These guides are by no means intended to be used as an alternative to professional treatment. Any person in recovery from an eating disorder needs a “team” for best chances of full recovery.

In my opinion, such a team consists of:

  • An ED savvy dietician who fully understands the extent to which a person recovering from an eating disorder needs to eat foods high in fat and calories and also understands that restriction is never an option at any bodyweight.
  • A doctor who can monitor bloods and other vital signs during recovery
  • A support person (this is the EDCP in the guides)
  • An eating disorder coach. This is someone who understands eating disorders, the complications involved, and a person who manages the team by coordinating efforts and helping the EDCP when needed. This is the sort of thing I do.

You may additionally need to coordinate working with other therapists if there are co-morbid disorders present. Everyone has to work together as a team and communication is key!
